Public Knitting.

Why is it when you knit in a public place you become much more approachable? I could be sitting in Starbucks for an hour and have no interactions with the scores of people that pass through. As soon as I whip the knitting out BAM! I’m suddenly the main attraction? I wondered if it was the yarn, perhaps an exotic selection was what was doing it? So the next day I purposely dragged out a small project using a medium beige smooth spun merino yarn, Still the same reaction. Is it people just want to have that personal interaction and otherwise don’t know how to strike up conversation with someone they don’t know without that put out there for them? Is it that people are genuinely interested in knitting? Or does knitting just plain make you approachable? It is a rather innocent craft. A craft of mothers and Grandma's.... Right?

Check out these not so innocent projects:

Now lets say I was knitting one of these at my neighborhood Starbucks... do you just say baby booties or do you go for the gold and say; Well I'm knitting a thong for hubby, he just loves cashmere between his legs.?!?!?!? GAH!

Don't you just love it? It's probably because it's a forgotten art that has come back into vogue. They only remember that scratchy, horrible stuff that grandmas used to make, and you're making something beautiful and soft... and it doesn't involve fun fur like lots of the beginner projects.

Let's thanks our lucky stars that those... uhm... *items*... aren't being modeled. Srsly.

Knitting has come a long way in the past 20 years, And it's growth in the past 10 has been remarkable!

I'm pleased with all the choices we are given at LYS (local Yarn Store) these days. There are also many talented people entering the industry too with sources that are both artfull and entertaining.
It's good to be a knitter:)

Yes, Yes, Thank out lucky stars, lol! ;)
